California: Harvest Interns

Willakenzie Estate, premium Pinot Noir producer in Oregon, is looking for two harvest interns for our 2009 vintage. The positions are suitable for enology/wine science students or graduates eager to get some hands-on winemaking experience. However, previous vintage experience(s) will also be considered.

The first position is a cellarhand position and will run from early September till November. Tasks in the winery will include (but are not limited to): Vineyard sampling, fruit hand-sorting, crushing, pump-over and punch-down, pressing, additions, tank racking, barreling, and maintaining the facility clean/organized.

The second position is a laboratory technician/cellarhand position. It will run from early August till November. Tasks in the laboratory will include (but are not limited to) grapes, ferments and finished wines analysis. Most of the assays are pretty straightforward (ie: colorimetric titrations) while some involve the use of a spectrophotometer. This position will focus on effectively measuring phenolics on juices and wines, so a proper winemaking (or chemistry) degree is a must. The successful candidate needs to be very organized, know how to prioritize, can multitask and stay focus while working under pressure. Some involvement in the cellar will also be required. Tasks in the cellar will include (but are not limited to) vineyard sampling, fruit sorting, crushing, pump-over and punch-down, pressing, additions, racking, barreling and maintaining the facility clean/organized.
