California: Winemaker

Six Sigma Ranch, Vineyards and Winery is seeking a motivated individual to become its first full-time winemaker. Established in 2000, Six Sigma is a 4,300 acre ranch in Lake County with 40 acres of vineyards. The winery produced 7,000 cases in 2008 and production is gradually increasing. The ranch is farmed sustainably with sheep in the vineyards and cattle grazing the hillsides.

The winemaker will be responsible for leading the winemaking team in all wine production activities, using data driven principles as outlined by Six Sigma. He or she will report to the owner and needs to be an enthusiastic leader in the following areas.
Vineyard- Winemaker will work together with the vineyard manager to ensure that all viticulture practices are aimed at superior wine quality. He or she will use lab results from petiole, leaf and fruit samples to make vineyard recommendations.

Crush- Winemaker will make harvest decisions based on lab analysis and field observations. Together with cellar master, winemaker will oversee the seasonal crush team.
