Oregon: Harvest Lab Technician


12th and Maple Wine Co is a custom crush facility located in the heart of the Oregon Pinot Noir Country in Dundee. We are seeking full time seasonal lab techs to join our production staff for the 2009 harvest, starting in August/September and ending sometime in November or December. You will receive instruction and training from a highly skilled research team and gain proficiency on multiple analytical methods including HPLC and RT-PCR. This is a fantastic opportunity for exposure to the science of wine and of different grape varietals harvested in Oregon and Washington.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitor primary fermentations by doing daily tank rounds and cap temps
• Collect samples as requested
• Preparations for analysis, including making reagents, cleaning equipment, etc.
• Perform analysis on samples as directed
• Record results accurately
• Make chemical additions regularly
• Ability to use safety gear and respirators
• Any other tasks appointed by the lab manager
• You should have strong organizational skills to efficiently collect and organize large numbers of samples for analysis and testing
• Be enthusiastic about overtime, we’ll need you to be able to work extended hours with 6 or 7 days per week during peak times
• Have a strong work ethic and “team” attitude with good interpersonal skills
• Be able to follow SOPs and verbal instructions
• Ability to be flexible and adjust to a dynamic work environment
• Ability to accurately transcribe numerical results from worksheets to other computer based forms
• Able to lift 40-50 lbs
• Related science degree required (Biology or Chemistry)
• Experience with PCR, HPLC, SPE, BOD, ELISA or Aseptic techniques desirable
• Proficiency in MS Excel or MS Access.
