South Africa: Procurement Portfolio Manager Supply


As part of the South African Procurement Leadership team, ensure maximum value creation and optimal spend in the designated Portfolio of spend. Manage key supplier relationships to promote breakthrough performance within key performance parameters. Support the delivery of the Procurement Strategy vision.

The post holder is expected to deliver significant profit growth and added value to the business through improved Procurement practices, strategic sourcing and development of the current supply base whilst maintaining existing service and quality parameters.

Plus provide support as required to the Africa Portfolio Manager in the development of regional category procurement strategies for spend across / within Africa. Further to work with Heineken in Joint Procurement initiatives that benefit both organisations


This role will be instrumental in contributing towards our overall Procurement programme – committed to deliver ongoing savings and cost optimisation across all Raw Material, Ingredient, Packaging, Production Support/Capex, Operational Procurement and Distribution Support categories

Market Complexity

Economic conditions in South Africa are putting increasing pressure on COG’s, Exchange rates and Oil prices are playing a bigger and bigger role in the make-up of these costs. South Africa is also in a high inflationary environment although inflation is expected to fall. Much of the ingredient and packaging supply base is specialised with high barriers to entry alternative suppliers. Brandhouse is also committed to over time achieving the full 20 Points for BEE Preferential procurement as set out in the BB-BEE codes of good practice

Leadership Responsibilities

Required to lead the Supply Procurement team and to lead the Category Management process through cross-functional teams to:

Provide in-depth market / portfolio analysis and understanding

Provide Procurement expertise by tapping into Global and Regional Diageo resources

Engage and involve key stakeholders

Engage senior sponsorship in local market

Use a variety of tools to develop insights and create strategic options

Finalise & agree portfolio strategies using the Diageo category management process

Recommend final source/s of supply

Put contracts in place with all suppliers

Manage strategic elements of supplier relationships

Drive supplier performance programmes

Deliver the Supply Procurement Strat Plan

Champion Procurement within the Business

Has ability to act as a champion for change and create organisational momentum to deliver.
