Basic Function:
Duties include the securing of quality winegrapes and management of
relationships with current and potential winegrape suppliers; supporting
the management of processor relationships; providing intelligence and
guidance on market conditions, winegrape supply, and viticultural
practices to senior decision-makers.

Percent of Time: 50% – Winegrower Relations

Develop and maintain relationships with long and short-term growers in
the Interior Valley (IV) and Central Coast (CC) areas and develop
relationships with potential growers as needed; manage annual grower
non-technical events.

Support and give advice on the purchase of grapes; develop an in-depth
understanding of the viticultural nuances of IV and CC, including
aspects of climate and soil and a knowledge of winegrower reputation,
affiliations, and attitude. Support the Director of Sourcing and the
Contract Manager in the production, delivery, and management of
contracts, written grower communications, and accounting documents.

Provide information on winegrape market conditions to senior managers as
requested, including information on pricing trends, planting activity,
and competitor activity.

Monitor and document winegrowing practices and grapevine phenology in
contract vineyards; advise growers on best winegrowing and
sustainability practices. Continually evaluate vineyards for conditions
such as rot, mildew, presence of insect pests, disease, vine collapse,
and vineyard and vine appearance. Collect pesticide reports from
growers prior to harvest. Provide frequent and in-depth vineyard up
dates to Winemakers and Managers, and organize vineyard tours as
requested.
