Nestlé Waters to build new bottling plant in Oregon?

Nestlé Waters North America is eyeing a nearby spring as a source for a bottling plant it proposes to build in Cascade Locks, The Oregonian reported recently.

The plant would draw 100 million gallons a year to produce the company’s Arrowhead and Pure Life bottled water brands.

Reception has been favorable among city officials because the plant would bring in much-needed property tax dollars and jobs, according to the article.

The company still faces opposition from consumer watchdog group Food and Water Watch, which is claiming Nestlé is targeting small, struggling communities that have lost their resource base in order to fast-track expansion of its bottled water business. Cascade Locks is located on the Columbia River about 40 miles east of Portland.
