SA Brains Chairman Steps Down

Christopher Brain, chairman of SA Brain & Co, is to retire from the regional brewer and pub operator, the company has confirmed.

He will leave the business later this year. Having assumed the position in 1989 from Bill Rhys, he has overseen a period of significant growth for the group – now one of Wales leading privately-owned businesses.

Among other things, he led the relocation of the company’s brewery site in 1999 from the centre of Cardiff to the former Hancock’s brewery, acquired from Bass.

Brain, 69, had previously been the 127-year-old company’s head brewer.
