C&C Group Buys Tennent’s For £180 Million

The C&C Group today announced it has completed the purchase of Tennent’s Lager brand and associated trading assets in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland from Anheuser-Busch InBev for a total enterprise value of £180 million.

It announced the full details of the transaction last month but had to wait for various approvals before the sale could be completed.

Unconditional approval from the Irish Competition Authority was gained on September 17th; the approval from shareholders on September 25th; and the end of the employee consultation process meant that the acquisition was completed yesterday (September 28th).

As part of the agreement, C&C, a leading manufacturer, marketer and distributor of branded beverages in Ireland and the UK, has granted Anheuser-Busch InBev the right to use the Tennent’s Super and Tennent’s Pilsner brands in certain locations worldwide.

C&C manufactures the leading Irish cider brand, Bulmers, and the international cider brand, Magners, for export to the United Kingdom, the United States and Continental Europe.
