Delhi HC Reserves Order On Coke-Bisleri Fight Over Maaza

manreadingThe Delhi High Court today reserved its order in the ongoing legal battle between Coca-Cola and Ramesh Chauhan-promoted firm Bisleri International over alleged violation of the rights of mango drink, Maaza.

A single member bench of Justice Manmohan reserved his
order after hearing arguments from both sides.

Bisler (formerly Gloden Agro) sold the Maaza brand to
Coke in India over a decade ago but retained the proprietorship of the trademark for the international markets.

During the proceedings, Coca-Cola’s counsel A S Chandioke
alleged that Chauhan’s firm was involved into marketing of
Maaza in India through some other means.

“Company’s (Bisleri’s) employee R V Verma and his son
Vishal Verma has opened a company in their name and are
engaged in illegal trade of Maaza in India,” submitted
Chandioke.

He also alleged that it was nothing “but a camouflage”
operation of Bisleri and they are “parellely manufacturing and bringing in competition of their product”.

“As per (our) agreement we are not selling Maaza in
countries like Turkey, US etc,” said Chandioke.

Bisleri’s counsel opposed the allegation saying it was
manufacturing Maaza in India for an Australian firm.
