THE first of the sixth generation of Coopers has begun working at the family brewery, taking on the role of brand marketing co-ordinator.

Rachel Cooper-Casserly has accepted a position in the marketing department and will report directly to her father, chairman and marketing director Glenn Cooper.

Ms Cooper-Casserly, who has previously worked with Tourism SA, kwp! and Delfin Lend Lease, said she was delighted to be working with the family company, founded in 1862 by former stonemason, Thomas Cooper.

“As a Cooper, it is understood that you have to establish yourself away from the brewery and may later be invited to join,” she said.

“I am the oldest of the next generation and I would like to see quite a few more get the opportunity to eventually oversee the future of the company.”

Father Glenn Cooper said he was extremely proud to welcome Ms Cooper-Casserly into the brewery.

“We are not as large as the big brewers but the one advantage we have here, and we see it as a great advantage, is you can still meet a Cooper,” he said. ”With the big brewers, the big operations, there is no identity.”

Mr Cooper said his daughter would focus on e-marketing and redeveloping the company website, and he didn’t anticipate any problems with the father-daughter relationship at work.

“I don’t see any problem at all. The only thing she doesn’t like is making my coffee in the morning. She says she’s got a marketing job to do,” he said.
