AG Barr To Invest £10m In Cumbernauld Site

AG Barr has announced proposals to invest between £8 million and £10 million over the next twelve months to increase capacity at its Cumbernauld site.

The soft drinks group said the investment would create operating capacity at the site that would absorb all current PET-packaged products from its Mansfield factory and allow for forecast future growth.

AG Barr has entered into a consultation process with employees with a view to closing the Mansfield site in early 2011 and the commencement of outsourced logistics activity during the course of 2010.

There are currently 98 people employed across production and logistics at the Mansfield site and in addition a small number of further employees will be impacted by these proposals.

The soft drinks business was established in 1875 and its biggest brand is Irn-Bru, which the company sees as part of the culture of the Scottish Nation.

In September nearly 10,000 people attended the Irn-Bru Can Clan and set a new Guinness World Record for the most people doing the can-can.
