Customs & Excise Seize €82,000 Alcohol Haul

Customs & Excise officers based in Dundalk, County Louth, seized 26 pallets of beer valued at €70,548 recently.

The officers seized 1,215 cases of 24x500ml cans of Coors Light and 756 cases of 24x330ml bottles of Miller at a premises in County Louth.

An Irish male in his 40s was interviewed and enquiries are continuing, stated the Revenue Commissioners’ office.

The consignment originated in the UK and is believed to have been destined for the Irish market.

This represents a potential Exchequer loss of €28,590 in excise and VAT. Meanwhile officers from the Revenue”s Customs Service based in Clones, County Monaghan, have seized 363 cases of wine containing 2,178 bottles and valued at €11,750.

The goods, which were imported from Northern Ireland and destined for the market in the State, were seized from a business premises in County Cavan. One person was interviewed and enquiries are continuing.

The potential loss to the exchequer in Excise Duty and VAT in this case is €8,998.
