Nestle to close Calistoga Beverage Company

The Calistoga Beverage Company is closing its Calistoga bottling facility Nov. 19.

Its parent company, Nestle Waters North America, announced the closure Monday in a press release.

The closure will eliminate 24 jobs. According to the press release, employees will be offered severance packages and job search assistance.

The plant is being closed not because of slow sales, but because of the age of the nearly 30-year-old facility.

“It has been operating at a small percentage of its capacity as production has shifted to other plants that are able to produce products more cost effectively,” the press release states. “This has become increasingly important in the current economy, when price discounting and competition is intense for many products, including beverages such as bottled water.”

As a result of the closure, production of Calistoga Brand Sparkling Mineral Water in small plastic bottles will cease, although it might be bottled in glass bottles at another facility. Home and office delivery of five-gallon bottles will not be affected.

The director of the Calistoga Beverage Company is Chris Canning.
