Heineken boss Jean-Francois van Boxmeer has been appointed a non-executive director at Kraft Foods – the US food giant behind a £10bn hostile bid for Cadbury.
As chief executive at the global beer giant, van Boxmeer was instrumental in the firm’s £7.8bn bid for Scottish & Newcastle (S&N, now Heineken UK) last year.
Van Boxmeer’s appointment will have no impact on his role at Heineken.
Experts have drawn parallels between the fight for S&N and the Kraft-Cadbury battle. Like Cadbury, which dismissed Kraft’s offer as “derisory”, S&N first rejected Heineken’s approach.
