Modelo Sues Constellation Brands

Mexican brewing giant Grupo Modelo is suing a unit of Constellation Brands, over a dispute regarding marketing policies at their US joint venture Crown Imports. The two groups jointly run Crown Imports, which has exclusive rights to import Modelo brands such as Corona, Tsingao and Pacifico into the US.

The dispute is related to related to Constellation’s alleged refusal to fund marketing efforts at Crown, which Modelo has since made up for. Modelo did not say how much it was seeking in liabilities, and Constellation declined to comment on the lawsuit, saying the company had not yet seen it.

The deal is the second case this year by Modelo against a US brewer, following its fight with Anheuser-Busch relating to the latter’s acquisition by Inbev.
