United Breweries Signs Agreement With Heineken


United Breweries has signed a new shareholders agreement with Heineken NV.

Under the agreement, Heineken will now be solely led in the Indian beer market by United Breweries.

Jean-Francois van Boxmeer, chief executive officer and chairman of Heineken’s executive board, said he was “extremely proud” to announce the partnership.

“In the world of beer, there is no bigger or more exciting growth opportunity than India.

“We have long regarded a strong Indian presence as important in order to increase our exposure to and growth from developing markets,” he added.

As a result of the agreement, two members of Heineken have been appointed to the board of directors of United Breweries.

The first Heineken brewery was set up in Amsterdam in 1863 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken, the brand and company now brew and sell their beers across the world. .

Heineken now brews and sells over 170 beers and ciders, including Amstel, Foster’s, Newcastle Brown Ale and Tiger.
