Absolut Vodka Launches New Flavour

Pernod Ricard's Absolut vodka is to launch a limited edition new flavour in Europe and Asia duty free. Absolut flavour of the tropics will launch at London Heathrow, followed by Paris CDG, Frankfurt and then Barcelona and Istanbul. In Asia, the first launch will be in Singapore's Changi international airport in February, and will then roll out across the continent, reaching Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Korea in March. Baileys idents will be shown before and after the ad breaks during Desperate Housewives throughout the 23 episode season. Independent UK family brewer Hall & Woodhouse has launched a new pear cider. The cider, called Badger Pearwood Cider, is made from pears grown in Somerset, in the west of England, the Morning Advertiser reports. "Following the success of Applewood, the cider we created with Thatchers, it seems only natural to extend the range by making a pear cider," Rick Paynes, brands marketing manager at Hall & Woodhouse told the newspaper. Constellation Brands, Inc. the world's leading wine company, announced today that it has successfully amended its Senior Credit Facility to extend a portion of its revolving credit facility until June 2013, which was otherwise due to expire in June 2011, and extend $300 million of its $1.2 billion term loan. In addition, the company announced that it intends to give notice to call, without penalty on Feb. 25, 2010, all $250 million of its 8 1/8 percent senior subordinated notes due Jan. 15, 2012. The Coca-Cola Company has launched a partnership which will enable over 50,000 small fruit farmers in Uganda and Kenya to increase their productivity. Along with non profit TechnoServe and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation the soft drinks company will help the African farmers to double their incomes by 2014. The four-year, $11.5 million (£7.13 million) partnership will enable mango and passion fruit farmers to be a part of Coca-Cola's supply chain for the first time. [...more]

Tennent’s Backs Minimum Alcohol Pricing

Tennent's lager has backed plans by the Scottish government to enforce a minimum price on alcohol. Mike Lees, managing director of Tennent Caledonian, said that the move would help to tackle Scotland's problem with alcohol. "In particular, there is an issue with a small group of consumers who purchase cheap alcohol in bulk, drink excessively at home and then go out into pubs and clubs and get into difficulties," Mr Lees explained. He went on to say that the company would support the proposals so long as they were fair and proportionate and suggested that high-strength alcoholic beverages should be the main focus. [...more]
