PepsiCo has launched its Pepsi Refresh Project which aims to encourage innovation in social good.

The program is to award more than $20 million (£12.3 million) this year to “ideas that will move the world forward”, this will include $1.3 million (£798,231) per month to the ideas Americans select as the best in open online voting.

People can submit their ideas online at the project’s website, refresheverything.com.

Six categories are to be funded by the project: health, arts and culture, food and shelter, the planet, neighbourhoods and education.

“All across America, people from every walk of life are producing powerful, creative and fun ideas that can create positive change,” said Majora Carter, Pepsi Refresh Project advisory board member.

She went on to say that the project will help move ideas “from wishful thinking to reality”.

Last month it was announced that Pepsi will not advertise at the 2010 Super Bowl.
