SABMiller soft drinks sales grow by 2%

SABMiller’s soft drinks sales volumes grew by two per cent in the three months ending December 31st 2009.

In a trading update released today (January 19th), the group also revealed that, on an organic basis, its lager volumes for the third quarter of the 2009 financial year were level with the previous year.

Lager volumes in Latin America, however, grew by four per cent in the quarter with volumes in Columbia growing by six per cent.

The company puts this growth down to the good weather, an increase in the amount of disposable income that customers had and “strong operational execution”.

Last November, SABMiller announced that its UK operation, Miller Brands, was continuing to grow despite the overall decline in market sales of premium lager.

SABMiller owns and sells around 200 brands worldwide, including premium international beers such as Pilsner Urquell, Azzurro and Grolsch as well as leading local brands such as Aguila, Castle, Miller Lite, Snow and Tyskie.
