McDonough, currently marketing and R&D director and Ireland general manager at Muller UK, replaces Simon Davies who left in October to start his own marketing agency, MMIXX.
Molson Coors said in a statement that McDonough’s “track record”, which includes a spell as marketing controller at Bacardi Martini, would stand him in good stead to handle its portolio of brands including Carling, Grolsch and Coors Light.
McDonough has spent the last five years at Muller, and before that spent 10 years in UK and European brand roles at Mars and was marketing director at German pet care.
Mark Hunter, Molson Coors’ CEO, said: “Filling one off the highest profile marketing roles in the UK was never going to be easy but after an extensive international search we knew we had found the right person and are delighted to welcome someone of Chris’ calibre to join the UK board.”
David Preston, currently interim marketing director, will move to the newly-created role of director of commercial innovation, reporting to McDonough.
McDonough’s appointment at Molson Coors coincides with Carling becoming the main sponsor of Scottish Rugby, replacing Belhaven Best.
