Gary Whitlie has been appointed as the new president of Romanian Ursus Breweries.
The 53 year old, who has worked for the SABMiller Group for the past 26 years, will take over the role in June.
Mr Whitlie has held a variety of senior financial positions and has managed three business entities.
He was the general manager of Chamdor Breweries in South Africa, set up Miller Brands in the UK and is currently the managing director of Dreher Breweries in Hungary.
“Romania comes with great challenges, taking into account the recent evolution of the beer market, but I am fortunate to work with great professionals here and I know that we have a remarkable portfolio of leading beer brands”, said Mr Whitlie.
Ursus has four breweries in Romania with a combined brewing capacity of 7,300 hl, which is more than double the capacity produced in 2005. Its total beer market share is 29 per cent, according to management estimates
