Coca-Cola India has partnered with Goa Football Association (GFA) to organise The Coca-Cola Celebration Cup – a grassroots level championship aimed at discovering young promising footballers in Goa.
A special event to announce this new partnership was held and was attended by Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, a former international goalkeeper and Bruno Coutinho, another prominent Indian footballer.
Some 48 village teams of children aged 16 and under are taking part in the tournament, which is a part of Coca-Cola India’s promotions surrounding the FIFA World Cup in India.
The initiative also takes forward the company’s commitment to promote healthy living in the country.
According to Savio Messias, secretary of the GFA, said: “This latest initiative will go a long way in identifying the under-16 talent at the grassroot level. In addition, such tournaments also help in promoting football amongst the masses in the state.”
Another Coca-Cola India-sponsored sports championship – the Sprite Gully Cricket Championship Season II – concluded earlier this month, with Agrani Sanskritik Parishad being announced as the victors.
