New Burton Brewing Museum To Open on May 1

Burton’s new brewing and visitor centre is set for its grand opening on May 1.

The newly revived facility – the National Brewery Centre – is being touted as a “world-class museum and visitor centre” celebrating Burton’s “proud brewing heritage”.

It was originally expected to open around now, but the unveiling has been delayed slightly.

Molson Coors, owners of the site, have pumped £200,000 into the project and will also provide £100,000 annually for the maintenance of the buildings.

Its old brewing centre, formerly the Bass Museum, shut last summer, despite efforts to save it by local MP Janet Dean and an action group.

Visitors to the museum will be able to meet the famous shirehorses and see a micro-brewery at work.

Actors, animatronics, holographics and multi-media technology will also be used to tell the story of brewing through the ages.

Beer tasting masterclasses will also be available, while thirsty visitors can end their tour at one of the centre’s bars or restaurants, which will offer specially-brewed real ales.
