Foster's has appointed a former police officer to its board of directors. Christine Nixon joined Foster's Group as a non-executive director at the beginning of April. Foster's Chairman, David Crawford said: "On behalf of shareholders I am very pleased to welcome Christine to the Foster's Board. "Christine's leadership, management experience and her strong community focus will be an asset at the Foster's Board table." Australian Vintage’s chief executive, Dane Hudson has left the company to “pursue other interest”, according to AV’s chairman Ian Ferrier. In an official statement the board says it will commence a search process to appoint a new CEO once a decision is made concerning the proposed merger with Constellation Brands. Wine exporter Beelgara has appointed Jaap Sonnemans as its new European market manager. Sonnemans joins Beelgara after spending 18 months as global brand manager for Lisa McGuigan’s Tempus Two Winery. He has experience in sales and marketing in the European Wine market, having worked for BRL Hardy in The Netherlands (2001–2003) and then Hardy’s importer and distributor, Groupe LFE (2003-2008), as marketing manager. Sonnemans’ mission is “to bring Beelgara’s brands to Europe and find the right distribution partners to grow the business based on a clear channel strategy and with the right support.” J Sonnemans has just returned from the winery where he spent some time assisting with the 2010 vintage. Diageo has announced it will secure the marketing and distribution rights to tequila brand Jose Cuervo in Australia, officially effective April 1 2010. Under the new agreement, Diageo Australia will manage the marketing and distribution of the Jose Cuervo portfolio brands including: Jose Cuervo spirits, Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix, Gran Centenario, and 1800 Tequilas. Aussie Ban For French Wine With NZ Name

A French winemaker's attempt to sell its "Kiwi Cuvee" wine in Australia has been tipped over. Winemaker Lacheteau, which is based in the Loire Valley, already sells its sauvignon blanc, labelled Kiwi Cuvee, in Europe and Britain. However, an attempt to register it in Australia caught the interest of the New Zealand Winegrowers, which opposed the move, British newspaper The Times reported. "The term 'kiwi' has a very strong association with New Zealand and our view is that it should be reserved for New Zealand wines," said New Zealand Winegrowers president Philip Gregan. He said it was a "delicious irony" that the French were attempting to capitalise on the popularity of New Zealand sauvignon blancs by trying to disguise their wine as something other than French.
