Australian Vintage In Talks On Joint Venture

AUSTRALIAN VINTAGE, formerly known as McGuigan Simeon, says it is in discussions with the drinks company Constellation Brands to pour some of its assets into a joint venture. The US-based Constellation owns Australia's second-largest wine business, Hardy. The two companies have discussed combining their Australian and British wine operations. Costa Browne $40 Million Deal

Kosta Browne, a small Sebastopol winery that has become one of the state's most coveted producers of high-end pinot noir, has struck a deal estimated at almost $40 million to sell a controlling interest to a high-powered Sonoma investment group. The winery, whose owners got their start while pooling tip money from their restaurant jobs, completed the deal Friday with the Vincraft Group. "The Australian beer, cider and spirits business, now known as Carlton & United Breweries, returned an excellent result. "Australian beer volumes were up in a good domestic market and we continue to leverage our leading innovation program for strong earnings growth. "Wine Review related initiatives are on track and there is an extraordinary amount of activity underway. However the wine category is bearing the full brunt of a lack of consumer confidence brought on by global economic conditions. "Wine returns are not where we want them to be, but it remains a profitable business, producing exceptional quality wines and continues to generate solid cash flows. "Overall, our brands are in very good shape, holding their own in a tough consumer environment. "Foster's took write downs today of $397.6 million associated with the Transformation Program, well within the range forecast in February. "Foster's balance sheet is strong, we have conservative gearing, good cash reserves and substantial committed undrawn bank facilities. Frucor Beverages, the local unit of Japan's Suntory Holdings, gained regulator approval to acquire rival juice business Simply Squeezed. Frucor is New Zealand's second-largest non-alcoholic drink company in New Zealand after Coke bottler Coca-Cola Amati, with brands including Just Juice, Fresh Up, Arano, Citrus Tree and McCoy.
