Finlandia vodka To Launch Charity Water Bottles

In honor of the 40th anniversaries of both Earth Day and Finlandia vodka, Finlandia is releasing limited edition charity water bottles. The bottles are to feature designs by Finnish graphic designer Klaus Haapaniemi. He said: "As a Finnish artist and proud of my heritage, it was a pleasure to partner with Finlandia on this project to benefit so many great environmental charities. "I hope my designs bring color and fantasy to Finlandia and glamorize the nature and the wildlife of Finland." Each design represents one of Finlandia vodka's core elements: the midnight sun, nature, six-row barley and glacial spring water. The one-litre water bottles will sell for $28 US and Finlandia will divide all profits among four global environmental projects selected to promote sustainability. [...more]

Nestle Still In Troubled Waters

Bottled water continued to be the blackspot in Nestle sales in 2009, as the group reported a slide in net profits for the year. Net profits for the 12 months of 2009 fell by more than 40% to CHF10.4bn (US$9.6bn), compared to CHF18bn in 2008, Nestle reported today (19 February). But, the firm said that the results are not directly comparable because 2008 profits were bolstered by a CHF9.2bn gain on its disposal of a 25% stake in Alcon. Underlying earnings per share in 2009 rose by nearly 10% to CHF3.09, Nestle added. [...more]

Hawaiian Springs water has partnered with Inter-Islands Distribution Ltd. to expand its business in the Asian marketplace. With the support of Inter-Islands Distribution Ltd., Hawaiian Springs will expand its availability to Hong Kong, Macau, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, India and Korea, as well as Australia. Mahesh Harilela, chairman of Inter-Islands Distributions Ltd., will oversee marketing and distribution of the premium bottled water. Nestle Waters Canada Unveils one of The Lightest Plastic Bottles In The Canadian Beverage Industry

Nestlé Waters Canada, Canada's marketshare-leading manufacturer and distributor of healthy beverage choices, today unveiled its next-generation Eco-Shape(R) 500 ml. bottle, one of the lightest such containers in the Canadian beverage industry and the Company's latest step in an ongoing commitment to reduce plastic consumption across its brand portfolio. Weighing just 9.16 grams on average, this bottle contains 27 percent less plastic than its predecessor Eco-Shape bottle, which was introduced in 2007, and 60 percent less plastic than the Company's original, pre-Eco-Shape 500 ml. PET bottle, first introduced in 2000. The Eco-Shape plastic beverage container introduced in 2007 was among the first branded 500 ml. bottles in the beverage industry to be light-weighted. [...more]

A-B InBev ships water to help in Haiti

Anheuser-Busch Inbev said today it is preparing a shipment of 600,000 cans of water from its Cartersville, Ga., AB brewery to help with earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. The company is working with the American Red Cross to get the water to Haiti. The company has managed to get some water to Haiti already. The day after last week’s earthquake, A-B InBev subsidary Ambev shipped almost 350,000 cans of drinking water from its brewery in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. (For the geographically-challenged, the D.R. shares the same island as Haiti.) Also, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation and Labatt will match donations to the Red Cross made by North American workers and its network of U.S. wholesalers, up to $300,000. Interesting factoid: Over the past two years, A-B and its U.S. distributors have provided more than 5 million cans of drinking water to victims of natural disasters. [...more]
