14 December, 2009 Bacardi-Martini India has launched Mixx Store, an online music and video download store powered by Hungama.com, at MixBacardi.com that aims to promote the Bacardi white rum brand among the youth. The online store allows users to download music, videos, ringtones, mobile wallpapers at Rs 10 a piece or Rs 99 for unlimited downloads for a month, both on PCs and mobile handsets.
Over time, Bacardi hopes to build a community around the brand on the website. The company is also rolling out a number of schemes and offerings to promote the brand and the site, such as contests to participate in events both in India and abroad, coupons on purchase of the brand to download music free of cost, and invites to parties.
Flavoured water is the new phenomenon that is likely to take the Indian beverage industry by storm. It is expected to serve as a refreshing alternative to sodas, colas, juices and other sweetened beverages.

Liquor baron and chairman of UB Group Vijay Mallya Monday entered into a strategic alliance with leading Dutch brewer Heineken NV to distribute its beer in India.
As per the agreement, the UB Group, including United Breweries Ltd (UBL) and United Breweries Holdings Ltd (UBHL), and the $14.32-billion Heineken group have resolved their differences and decided to withdraw litigations between them. [...more]
Mercury Winery, a wine maker located in Maharastra, India, has entered into the Italian market in pursuit of its plan of expanding sales and distribution of its wines, FoodBizDaily reported. The company unveiled two varieties Shiraz and Sauvignon, which will be available at the Indian restaurants in Italy.
In addition, the company has rolled out wine assortment in China and is reportedly the first Indian wine maker to do so. The company is planning to launch its products in the US within November 2009 and later in Canada. The company, as a part of its plans to expand domestically, is also going to launch its selection of wines in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu within November 2009.
FoodBizDaily quoted Mr Viral Pancholia, director of Mercury Winery as saying: "Sparkling wine is a seasonal product and is targeted at events, celebrations and weddings segment. Tilaknagar Industries (TI), a manufacturer of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), has opened a new multi-pressure distillation plant that can produce 50000 liters of extra neutral alcohol (ENA) per day. This 50 KLPD distillation plant to produce extra neutral alcohol. The company had invested INR750m for setting up this new plant in Shrirampur, Ahmednagar and for up-gradation of the existing plants.
The company said that the plant is controlled by PLC (Process Logic Control) based technology. It claimed that a variety of ENA will be produced which will be utilized for the brands of TI across the country and for export requirements. [...more]
The Delhi Police have busted a racket involving sale of smuggled foreign liquor on social networking sites at cheap rates.
Three persons were arrested in this connection on Wednesday. Police and excise department officials said the accused created an exclusive group called Whiskey On Wheels on at least three networking sites, Facebook, Orkut and Naymz. Cobra Beer has said that the company is planning to invest 4.5 million pounds its Indian business.
Mr. Karan Bilimoria, the founder of Cobra Beer, said Indian beer market had enormous potential.

The Delhi High Court has asked the Indian conglomerate Bisleri International to halt the sale of their mango-flavored soft drink under the trade name Maaza in India, giving Coca-Cola a victory in a trademark case.
The issue has been fought for more than a year now with the Delhi High Court allowing the interim injunction in the matter, passed in 2008, to become absolute in favor of Coca-Cola. [...more]
New Delhi, Global alcohol beverages major Bacardi Martini today announced the launch of the 200-year old international premium vodka brand Eristoff in India.
The product is priced at Rs 450 for 750ml and is available in leading licensed spirit stores, among others.
