PepsiCo Launches Successful Refresh Project in Canada

PepsiCo has launched its Refresh Project in Canada, giving the country's residents the chance to improve their local communities. Fans of the soft drinks giant's brands are being invited to put forwards their ideas of how they can enhance or develop where they live, with the most popular being given a grant to complete the proposed project. PepsiCo is planning to close a plant in Pryor, Oklahoma, which mainly manufactures Gatorade. Blaming the unfavourable economic environment, the company may shut down the plant in about three months time. About 100 employees would be affected by the closure. PepsiCo has pledged its support for the White House's new campaign to help combat childhood obesity. The soft drinks beverage company will introduce a new labelling initiative to support Let's Move. First lady Michelle Obama, who is spearheading the launch of Let's Move, was applauded by PepsiCo for her efforts to address national obesity. Chairman and chief executive officer of PepsiCo Indra Nooyi said: "We have learned over the years there is no silver bullet to solve obesity. PepsiCo is to start installing its first US hydrofluorocarbon-free (HFC-Free) coolers in Miami, the host city of this year's Super Bowl, from next week. The 35 new coolers each use less energy than a 100-watt light bulb and are being installed in the US city as part of a pilot project to reduce the carbon footprint of the company's refrigeration equipment. PepsiCo To Donate $1m And Products To Earthquake Victims

PepsiCo is to donate $1 million (£611,920) and a variety of products to the earthquake victims in Haiti. The company said that, as well as the financial support, it is to donate Quaker products, bottled water and Gatorade through its bottlers in Florida and the Dominican Republic. Half of the money donated will be shared between the American Red Cross, Save the Children and Friends of the World Food Program. The remaining $500,000 of the donation will be used to fund reconstruction in the country. It will help to strengthen Haiti's infrastructure, which will limit any damage sustained in future disasters. Last week, the Coca-Cola Foundation announced that it had donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to assist with emergency relief efforts in Haiti, where the company has sold its products since 1927. Coca-Cola's bottling partner in the Dominican Republic is also donating water and Coca-Cola beverages to people in Haiti. [...more]
