Real Ale Grows In Popularity Among Female Drinkers

Over a third (37 per cent) of females who drink alcohol have tried real ale, which is more than double the amount that had tried the drink in June 2008 (16 per cent). This is according to the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra), which, as part of National Cask Ale Week 2010, is today (Thursday, April 1st) celebrating National FemAle Day. Marston’s Reports Fall In Annual Profits

Marston's PLC (UK) has reported a 72 per cent fall in annual profits but said it is optimistic about the future, having experienced improved trading in recent weeks. For the year ending October 3rd 2009, the brewery and pub chain made a pre-tax profit of £21.4 million, a significant fall from last year's £76.2 million. The company announced that, despite these short comings, it plans to build 60 new pubs over the next three years. Ralph Findlay, chief executive at Marston's, said: "Although we are cautious about predicting recovery, we have good pubs and popular regional ales which are performing well.
