Drinks manufacturer and distributor Halewood International is set to continue its bartender education programme in the on trade with the continuation of its Lamb's spiced rum tour this May. The company will target independent style bars in three cities with a programme of activity designed to raise the brand profile and educate bartenders through new brand ambassador, Rob Worsley. Santa Teresa Rum To support Grammy Awards

Santa Teresa rum is to sponsor the Grammy Awards. Santa Teresa 1976 will be available to the stars at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on January 31. Ron Santa Teresa marketing director, Gustavo E. Pérez said: “We are pleased to announce that Ron de Venezuela will be part of one of the music industry’s biggest annual celebrations, with our ultra premium rum, Santa Teresa 1796. Presenters and performers at this event will be offered, among other gifts, a bottle of our rum.” Celebrities like Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Green Day and Pink will receive a bottle of Santa Teresa 1796 in their ‘official talent gift bags’ [...more]

Diageo Faces Boycott Over Rum Plans

Diageo is facing a boycott of its spirits brands in protest at its future production plans - in Puerto Rico. The National Puerto Rican Coalition - which promotes the well-being of Puerto Ricans living at home and in the US - has called for a boycott over plans to switch production of Captain Morgan rum from Puerto Rico to the US Virgin Islands in 2012. The NPRC says the move could have a negative impact on the image and stability of its domestic rum trade. NPRC president Rafael Fantauzzi, said he hoped to get support for the protest from within the US. [...more]

Captain Morgan Adds Lime-Flavored Rum

The Captain Morgan rum brand introduces Lime Bite nationwide in December. Marketed by Diageo North America, the silver spiced rum is made by combining the brand's original Captain Morgan Silver Spiced Caribbean rum with natural lime flavors. Diageo touts the new rum as highly versatile for mixing into cocktails. The company suggests that Lime Bite pairs best with lemon-lime soda or beer, and adds that it also complements juice, energy drinks and cola. Lime Bite has 35-percent alcohol-by-volume and will retail for $16.99 a 750-ml. bottle. The latest Captain Morgan expression is the 14th in the brand portfolio, joining Original Spiced, Silver Spiced, Private Stock, 100-Proof Spiced, Tattoo, Long Island Iced Tea and the Parrot Bay flavors.
