Suntory to sell soft drinks in Guangdong, China

Suntory Holdings has announced that it is to sell its soft drinks in the Chinese province of Guangdong in 2010 with the aid of US food and drink giant PepsiCo. Two of the Japanese beverage company's dairy-based drinks will be the first of Suntory Holdings' products to be marketed in the region. The company said it hopes to increase sales in China to 20 billion yen (£136.1 million), which is five times the amount it made in 2009. Suntory was founded in 1899 and its business portfolio now includes alcoholic and soft beverages, foods and flowers. In November, Suntory Holdings announced it had completed the acquisition of the Orangina Schweppes Group. Suntory Completes Purchase Of Orangina Schweppes Group

Suntory Holdings has completed its acquisition of the Orangina Schweppes Group from the Blackstone Group and Lion Capital LLP. The two investment firms received a binding offer from Suntory to purchase Orangina and all the social, regulatory and legal requirements necessary for a sale have now been completed. Lion Capital and Blackstone were majority investment partners in Orangina Schweppes since they bought the group from Cadbury in 2006. Suntory said that the acquisition will provide the company with a "solid platform in Europe in the soft drinks business", and they added it was a further step in its global expansion strategy. Orangina Schweppes Group claimed that every five seconds somebody around the world drinks one of its beverages, which includes Schweppes Indian Tonic, Canada Dry and Orangina - a sparkling fruit drink containing orange pulp, 12 per cent citrus fruit juice and no artificial colouring.
